Wax

Waxing is a simple way to remove unwanted body hair, and its practice dates back many centuries. Although waxing is not the most pleasant of service, my goal is to minimize your discomfort and maintain your modesty. After working with several different types and brands of wax, I have chosen the gentlest of waxes I can find and I use soothing botanical products on the area afterwards to prevent ingrown hair and reduce irritation. Incorporating both cream and hard wax allows me to remove hair from any area without unnecessary reapplications, which can cause additional irritation. So that we are not rushed, I prefer to schedule waxing appointments with more time than larger spas and salons, I want you to be happy with your result and I want it to be as pleasant for you as possible.

A few things to remember before your waxing service:

  • The hair needs to be approximately 1/4 of a inch long (the length of a bottom eyelash) for the wax to remove it from the follicle.
  • Waxing can cause discomfort. Taking a mild pain reliever prior to your service may help. Also topical anesthetics creams may also be applied to the area 20-30 minutes before you arrive for you service.
  • Discontinue using Retin-A, Diffrin Gel, Adapalene, Tretinoin, Renova, Obagi, and any other non-OTC acne or anti-aging product 4 weeks before your service.
  • Discontinue using any OTC acne or anti-aging product 2 weeks before your service.
  • Discontinue Accutane minimally 6 months before you schedule.
  • As always, proper hygiene is appreciated.

Things to remember after your waxing service:

  • Avoid touching the waxed area for the first day.
  • Depending on the area, your skin may be sensitive so avoid hot water when showering, aggressive washing, aggressive products, and there is no need to exfoliate for the following few days.
  • Redness and slight swelling is common immediately after the waxing and can be covered with mineral makeup.
  • Small bumps may form usually 24-48 hours resembling ant bites or small pimples. This is folliculitis and is simply irritation in the follicle. Products that help prevent ingrown hairs can be applied to this.
  • Ingrown hair may happen, especially in the bikini due to constrictive clothing pushing against new growth. Gentle exfoliation during new growth period can help minimize ingrown hair.
  • Avoid UV exposure for 24- 48 hours.
